The Atonement
The atonement of Jesus Christ is a very personal doctrine. It is the greatest act of love. Its breadth, beyond comprehension. Nevertheless, we get to personally experience its power.
Of the eleven meanings and representations I put into this piece of art, my two favorites are:
As we rise from the depths of darkness by applying the atonement, our life is filled with more and more light, until the day that our whole being is single to the glory or light of God. i.e. this piece of art is dominated by dark ink at the bottom, but as you go up through the piece more and more white space is included.
The atonement covers all pains, sorrows, sins, and death. Pain is represented with a crown of thorns. Sorrow interpreted by large tears that are held up by pain and tied to sin or individually suspended by the circumstances around them. Sin starting out appearing straight devolves into a twisted, meandering path that leads down into sorrow and pain. Death is represented by the curved top two lines, mirroring a traditional tombstone.
