a bull and rider designed with words representing Christ and the devil

The Bull Rider

This piece of art is inspired by the cowboy poem “Satan’s Stallion” by Ellie Corrigan. The poem is about a stallion which throws every cowboy who tries to ride it. Then one cowboy steps up and says he would ride it. In the furry of the ride onlookers see a hole pierced through the raised hand of the rider.

This design is made up of five distinct parts:

The Sky: The Sky is made up of 65 scriptures about the divinity, mission, and purpose of Christ. They are drawn in circles around the sun, referencing the Light of Christ and how it fill every expanse of space and that the gospel is one eternal round.

The Ground: The dirt or ground is made up of 29 words that represent creation, earth, and mortality. There are also two Scriptures used, Genesis 1:1-14 which describes the creation of the world and Exodus 31:17 which describes reason behind the creation of a sabbath day. These two scriptures are written in such a way that they outline the continents of the world. Can you find them?

The Shadow of the Bull: Where the devil blocks the light of Christ we find 15 words depicting the sad and fallen state of mankind. These represent our state of mind as we give into and accept the lies and deceit of the devil.

The Bull: The black bull is composed of 47 scriptures that references the devil. These were written in a conglomerated method to both accentuate the muscle structure of the bull as well as to represent the confusion and unclarity that Satan brings.

The Rider and Ropes: Is made up of 38 different names of Jesus Christ as well as includes 18 scriptures that testify of Christ as the Savior of the world. See if you can identify what the patches on the rider’s vest are. There is meaning behind them. Also, look very closely at the rider’s raised hand.
